John Nance Garner was a good leader because he had all the qualities. The first one is communication. We can assume he spoke with motivation and confidence as held many offices such as Speaker of the House. The next one we will look at is dedication. Again we can only assume his dedication because of looking at his work in the Democratic Party. We can also look at his dedication to the United States Constitution. He separated from President Roosevelt and retired from politics after disagreeing with the president over the threat by the president to stack the Supreme Court with additional judges that would agree with the presidents political views.
As we take a look at some of his other leadership qualities, we can see his sense of humor was looked on favorably by his friends and colleagues. They spoke of how he would make jokes about political rivals and opposing views. He even came to like the nick name given to him, Cactus Jack.
We can also learn about leadership by looking at John Garners positive attitude. He has shown a great positive attitude throughout his political career. Though he did not win all of his political battles, he still kept a positive attitude and continued to fight for what he and his party believed in.He never showed hard feelings over loosing a political battle.
Delegation is also a good qualification of a leader. Without to much to go on in historical records, we again have to use assumptions on this one. The assumption is that he must have been good at delegating tasks. We make this strong leap of faith based on the fact that he held many positions in government that would require that he delegated many tasks to his staff and other members of his party. Positions such as state legislator, Speaker of the House and eventually Vice President would all require delegating authority.
Next we should look at his contributions. John Garner made many contributions. Not only did he contribute much to the state of Texas but, also to the United States. His positions in public office helped bring about many changes and improvements to both. Even though his views would be considered racist by present standards, at the time he held office many of his decisions helped Texas to become the economic power house that she remains to be today.
